![]() The 2012 Calypso King Of AntiguaKeithroy " De Bear" Morson was born on the Caribbean island of Montserrat. He made his first foray into the Calypso arena as a junior Calypsonian while attending the Montserrat Secondary School. In 1992 after having honed his craft for several years, paying his dues as they say on the street, De Bear finally won his first Calypso crown on Montserrat. He would successfully defend his title the next year. Following the volcanic eruptions and subsequent upheaval on his native island De Bear emigrated to neighboring Antigua. As per the rules he had to wait five years before he was able to compete in the Calypso competition there. It was an agonizing wait for a die-hard Calypsonian, but it didn't take long for him to make his presence felt once he was allowed to compete. De Bear is currently the reigning 2012-2013 Calypso monarch of Antigua. On August 5th 2012 he successfully fended off challenges from nine of his rivals and retained his crown for a third year in a row. He is now a four-time monarch in Antigua. On Saturday August 11th 2012 De Bear was crowned Leeward Islands Calypso monarch for the second time. He has won numerous other awards and accolades across the region. From his humble beginnings on Montserrat De Bear through hard work and perseverance has distinguished himself as a fierce and feared competitor, brilliant songwriter, dynamic performer and an astute social and political commentator. A complete Calypsonian. We hope you enjoy his music. |
